The visit
Last week, we had the pleasure to attend the World Vaccine Congress in Barcelona. A congress with more than 3000 attendees which discuss the most recent findings and experiences during vaccine bioprocessing and trials.
For three days, our team had the opportunity to talk with the participants and discuss their projects. We could explain how Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) can be used, not only to de-risk their biomanufacturing but also for the safety of the vaccine, especially during their R&D stages.
Safety as a priority
The International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) updated recently (June 2024) the Q5A guidelines to encourage the use of NGS for adventitious agent detection as a replacement for in vivo assays due to its “breadth and sensitivity”. Moreover, using NGS will replace and reduce the use of animal testing.
